“Move Up. Without Settling Down”

The Acura ILX Hybrid is the perfect vehicle for those looking for an entry level sophisticated vehicle and don’t want to break the bank when filling up on gas.

Interior

The centre instrument panel is well laid out, not too clustered and pretty easy to get to know.  The audio system has AM/FM/CD tuner with MP3/Windows Media audio capability, mp3, auxiliary input jack, USB connector and 6 speakers with handsfree link Bluetooth capabilities and steering wheel mounted controls for ease of accessibility. A great function is the text message feature that reads incoming text over the audio system and lets you reply with 1 of 6 preset replies. This compact sedan is anything but compact, there is an abundance of features in this vehicle including the heated, leather-trimmed seats with driver 8-way power adjustment including lumbar support, fold-down rear-seat centre armrest, 5-inch colour information display and dual-zone automatic climate control with an air filtration system. There is ample room for all the passengers in the ILX and great trunk space with the option of folding rear seats for those days when you need the added storage. These are all features you would find on higher end vehicles so it was a pleasure to find them on this entry level compact sedan.

Engine/Performance

The Acura ILX Hybrid comes with a 1.5l 4 cylinder engine and a 20 kilowatt lithium ion battery pack that combined produce 111 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque, not bad for a hybrid vehicle. Like other hybrid vehicles the ILX hybrid has the idle stop feature that automatically shuts off the engine when at a stop but as soon as the brake pedal is released the engines starts up again, which is great as it helps to maximize fuel efficiency and the ILX gets 39 mpg. There are also paddle shifters which allow you to change the driving experience if you wanted to, which is not available in many hybrid vehicles. The amplitude reactive damper assesses the driver input and road conditions and adjusts the drive to suit the surface conditions you are driving on and how you’re driving.

Exterior

For a car that is based on the Civic, it does not seem to resemble it much at all. It follows the other Acura models with the Keen Edge Dynamics however, more of a softer feel than the TL and TSX.  Standard are the 17’ alloy wheels, auto-off headlights, fog lights and automatic day/night rear-view mirror. The headlights are projector-beam halogen and the side mirrors are body-colored, power folding and heated.

Safety

The ILX comes with the standard 6 airbags, dual stage dual threshold front airbags, backup camera that assists in reversing in any situation and,Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structureAdvanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure4 wheels ABS with electronic brake distribution and brake assist. The body has been created using an advanced compatibility engineeringbody structure which provides enhances protection in multi-directional collisions. Also included is vehicle stability assist with traction control for those ever changing road conditions, itautomatically detects and corrects your understeer or oversteer by monitoring the driving conditions and adjusting the throttle and or brakes.  A great feature is the Maintenance Minder, instead of basing your regular maintenance on kilometres the system calculates maintenance needs based on your driving habits.
