"2016 Canadian Car Of The Year"
The proximity key entry system with push start has you on the go as quickly as possible as that’s all you want to do in this thing, just go! Honda has done a great job upgraded their interior; the heated leather trimmed seats are comfortable and luxurious. The leather wrapped steering wheel feels great to hold onto, the mounted paddle shifters really add to the sporty feel of the Civic Coupe. No matter whether you’re feeling hot or cold, Honda’s got you covered with the available dual climate control system. Although form the outside the Civic Coupe might not look like it has a whole lot of extra room or storage but thanks to the 60/40 split rear folding seats you can definitely free up enough room for most things you’re hauling in a car. The new Civic also comes loaded with technology, centrally controlled by the 7inch display audio system equipped with Honda-Linked Satellite Navigation. Standard is the blind spot display on the main screen whenever the right signal is used or you can also view this camera angle while driving with the simple push of a button. The Civic Coupe also comes with a reverse camera, offering three different camera angles; wide, normal, top-down. The integrated Bluetooth works great and pairs seamlessly with your phone. No more worries about the battery being drained thanks to the wireless charging which was so easy to use and convenient. I didn’t have to worry about leaving another USB charging cable in the media car. For the music fanatics the Civic Coupe is also available equipped with a 450 watt 10 speaker sound system. Overall the interior is very well done and has a sporty yet very luxurious feel to it.
The new look for the Civic Coupe is menacing. Its looks much more aggressive and sportier than ever. No matter where we took this car, we always got looks. It might have also been because our tester car was finished in what Honda calls the Energy Green Pearl paint job. Regardless of the color however, the Civic coupe design is astonishingly structured and sharp body lines appear almost everywhere you look giving it that super aggressive and sporty styling that Honda was going for. The standard LED daytime lights and LED headlights mend perfectly into the grille sitting a little recessed from the bumper giving the front fascia of this car an entirely new and sleek appeal. Moving along to the back of the car the styling cues stay the same, aggression and sexy styling must have been the key words when it came time for the design aspect. The sharp and sleek taillights that travel all the way across the trunk lid are sure to catch your attention, they might not be appealing at first glance because of how different and unique they are but you will soon realize that they fit absolutely perfectly and make a statement like the rest of the car. The Touring edition comes equipped with 17inch rims that fit perfectly with the new look. Overall the cars presence is felt no matter where you take it, Honda did a great job at improving the look of the 2016 Civic Coupe.
Our tester 2016 Honda Civic came equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 174hp. It was a true pleasure to drive in sport mode using the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. Nimble and agile the Civic is essentially ready to get in or out of any situation with ease without the fear of lagging. However, for the more economic drivers the civic comes equipped with Eco Assist which allows the car to automatically engage your engine and other systems to perform more efficiently. More so the continuous variable transmission allows for smooth shifts to keep rpm’s under control. Stiff yet comfortable suspension insure that handling is up-to par with the rest of the vehicle, cornering is a breeze at higher speeds because the body roll effect is minimal. The Civic Coupe turned out to be a great daily commuter that still gives you sense of thrill to drive, giving you a combined average of 6.7L/100KM (7.5 HWY, 5.6 City) the Honda Civic is a perfect city car. I guess that’s one of the reasons AJAC voted it 2016 Canadian Car of the Year.
