“Made for Active Lifestyles”
As you approach the vehicle the proximity sensing key automatically folds and unfolds the side mirrors, lights up the door handle pockets and the doors unlock without having to take the key out of your pocket and the push start technology has you on the go with ease. Once inside the cockpit of the new Sportage you can really tell Kia was completely driver focused when designing it. Starting with the D-Cut steering wheel, sport shift paddles, chrome accents throughout, it provides you with a much sportier driving experience than ever before. It comes standard with heated front seats and available heated rear seats and heated steering wheel. For those hot summer days, Kia has also included air-cooled front seats and if your passengers are picky about their temperature settings well the dual-zone climate control will help fix that. Loaded with technology the 2017 Sportage has an 8-inch touchscreen interface with integrated voice-activated navigation and Bluetooth hands-free cell phone connectivity. Very easy to use and remarkably smart, the center interface allows you to have ultimate control without having to juggle your phone, wires, etc. Included was the wireless charging pad, which made charging your phone a breeze on-the-go. For those drives home from work Kia outfitted the Sportage with a Harmon/Kardon premium audio system and the panoramic sunroof is much bigger and wider than before to allow you to take full advantage of seeing everything the outside world has to offer. Thanks to the proximity technology the smart power lift gate automatically opens once you stand behind it with the key in your pocket. Overall, Kia has a done a great job re-designing and introducing the 2016 Sportage, loaded with easy to use technology, comfortable and sporty interior it makes for a great everyday driver.
The 2016 Kia Sportage comes standard with a 2.4L direct injected engine, producing 181hp however; our tester model had the available 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing a notable 237 hp and 250 lb ft of torque. Paired with the six speed sportmatic automatic transmission Kia allows you to choose from 3 driving modes to personalize your Sportage, normal, eco, and sport. At any time, you can change gears with the available paddle shifters and take control of shifts. The advanced Dynamax intelligent AWD system offers fully automatic torque distribution to all tires for better traction while accelerating, cornering and in low traction scenarios. Overall our tester had enough zip to pass and merge with ease and the AWD system was great in rainy Vancouver. We had the opportunity to take the Sportage out on a little road trip and the experience was great, the auto high-beam feature worked phenomenally and made nighttime highway driving a breeze, it was able to sense upcoming light from oncoming vehicles much faster than most drivers would be able to do and would switch back to high beam as soon as the vehicle had passed. The power was more than sufficient to comfortably coast at and above highway speeds without any sort of resistance or strain on the car. With the addition of the all-wheel drive this KIA is extremely capable and has all the right traits to be an exceptional family vehicle that is ready for anything you have to throw at it.
The Kia Sportage has never looked bolder, sportier and more aggressive than it does now. The 2016 Sportage features all new HID xenon headlights that are directionally adaptive and are placed strategically to give it a more aggressive look. We also have the great European styled fog lights that utilize 4 individual bulbs for each light, not only do they look great and give the Sportage an aggressive appearance but they also function very well because of the LED design. From the rear it looks just as nice with LED light bar taillights and the 19inch alloy rims will definitely have everyone doing a double take. Overall the exterior is very sporty and demands attention at every corner.
Passenger well-being is always top of mind for Kia. The Sportage comes with six standard airbags and a chassis that is manufactured with advanced high strength steel. Voted IIHS 2016 top safety pick when equipped with autonomous emergency breaking which automatically intervenes and provides full breaking assistance if it detects a potential collision with a vehicle in front of you. Other features included where; lane departure warning system, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, back-up camera and sensors. Standard features consist of electronic stability control, hill assist, downhill brake control, and vehicle stability management. Overall, a solid and safe vehicle for everyday commutes and long road trips with the family. I would definitely be a proud owner of the 2016 Kia Sportage.
